Grading Criteria:

A Few Reminders Judges generally do NOT notify the participant regarding Tajwīd mistakes. Very often, participants are very close in their performance even when they are 1 or 2 positions apart from each other. Winning or losing in the competition does not necessarily equate to how well or not well a participant memorized the Qur'an The main goal is not to win, but to improve in your knowledge of Qur'an On the right is a layout of the general grading criteria the judges use during the competition. It is not comprehensive.

  • Tajwīd Deductions
  • Including Waqf and Ibtida
95% of Grading is based on Memorization & Tajwīd

Memorization Deductions:

Faltering, stopping, or suddenly going back to remember Going back more than 2 lines Mistakes whether corrected or not after being notified Long pause after the judge's recitation (more than 5 sec)

The remaining 5%:

Beauty of the voice and control over it

Main Rules:

This competition is open only to individuals residing in Georgia, except for Level 7 (The Whole Qur’an). Level 7 is open to participants from any U.S. state, with a limit of 2 participants per state.

A preliminary round will be held to assess memorization and Tajweed for all participants registering in Levels 1–6. Date and venue: To Be Announced (TBA).

Participants who placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in last year’s competition may not compete in the same or a lower category. They are only eligible to register for a higher category.

Participants are not eligible if they have previously won:
- The Imam Shatibi Competition (Minnesota)
- The USA Quran Competition (Chicago)
- Any international Quran competition

The competition is for memorization only.

Reading from a Mushaf is not allowed during judging.

Have completely memorized the level for which they are registered

Demonstrate proper Tajweed in their recitation

Registration is online only and is available from June 1, 2025 to August 1, 2025.

All winning positions are FINAL and are NON-NEGOTIABLE. Any participant who registers and participates must agree to the decisions made by the judges.

Participants must be on time to their scheduled times and there will be no makeup test.

An Imam or teacher is NOT allowed to participate.
